Oceanic Air XS 2 Octopus Regulator

One is better than two. Now you can combine your alternate air source and BC inflator into one low profile, streamlined package. With the Oceanic Air XS 2 Octopus Inflator provides the diver with plenty of advantages over a standard Occy and power inflator configuration. This is because the Oceanic Air XS 2 Occy combines the alternate air source and the BC power inflator into one low profile, streamlined package.

The Oceanic Air XS 2 Occy regulator is ideal for the traveling diver who is looking to cut down their weight as it eliminates one hose and an Occy. In addition, the Oceanic Air XS 2 also improves diver streamlining underwater by minimising drag and puts an end to diver's continually having to re-attach their dangling traditional style Occy.

The Oceanic Air XS 2 Octopus regulator inflator is Nitrox compatible to 40% straight out of the box and comes as standard with a MaxFlex braided inflator hose. This Occy is available in three different corrugated hose sizes to suit different BCD sizes and individual diver preferences. The sizes are: 16 inch / 18 inch / 20 inch.

The idea with this, or any similar product, is that you do as follows: Your buddy signs "I need air!" 1. YOU put the secondary air source in your mouth and hand him your normal second stage (which is still in your hand -- you just took it out of your mouth). 2. You grasp him by the lapels and hold him close (he doesn't have enough hose to wander off, so you are in control -- a Good Thing if he's a little panicky). 3. Ascend safely. The three advantages of one of these things are that (a) you KNOW where your spare is, all the time, (b) You control your buddy, not vice versa, (c) you don't drag your octopus across the bottom or get it snagged somewhere. Personally, I'll never go back to a standard octopus (this one isn't mine, I have a ScubaPro Air II, but same idea. I'm getting this for my son, because I'm that sold on its being a safer option, and he dives an Oceanic BC). I'll grant you, your octopus SHOULD be secured, but they don't always stay that way. With the Air II, I always KNOW right where it's at.

Ive had my airxs2 for almost a decade. Recently picked one up for my son's bcd. It works as designed - Its not a primary reg, but for emergency use. The key with this is to practice with your buddy in shallow water first. The ergonomics take some getting use to so you don't accidentally press the purge button while deflating or inflating. Again, practice makes it easier. I simply pull the corrugated hose to vent air instead of the deflate button. Bottomline, one less hose and you know where your alt air source is..not dragging or hanging up on the bottom.
