Oceanic Manta Ray Fins

The Oceanic Manta Ray Fins combine true beauty with stunning performance to create a blade that has never been seen before in the dive industry. What's more amazing is that the inspiration for this revolutionary blade was born from observing nature at her finest. The Oceanic Manta Ray project designers spent many hours studying our Manta Ray friends in the ocean and comparing their movements to the natural kicking stroke of scuba divers. By studying the Manta Ray they were able to observe how their bodies have evolved since the dawn of time to harness the power of movement and best water efficiency with their swimming style. They carefully observed how the water flowed over the Manta Rays body, paying particular attention to how their bodies moved to create the positive water flow pressures. Inspired by this unique harmony of nature, they created and designed a fin blade like nothing ever previously attempted.

To simulate the shape and the mechanics of fast moving marine animals, they created three advanced materials to simulate the manta ray bodies: bone, tendon and skin. This was then combined with a flexible hinge that allows for the best angle to optimise propulsion and reduce the negative zone where zero thrust is generated. This flexible hinge concept is further revolutionised through the introduction of a patented X SHAPE into the fin blade which dramatically improves force transfer while also being highly efficient. The result is a smooth, progressive deformation of the blade during the kicking cycle just as it happens in nature.

The end result is that Oceanic have successfully created a blade that replicates the incredible Manta Ray design. A design that has evolved since the dawn of time to create an efficient and harmonious solution to efficiently travel through the underwater world. Once you try these fins for yourself you'll experience the benefits of incredible power on tap, maximum comfort and streamlined efficiency which combine to also deliver improved diver air consumption. You will understand why the Oceanic Manta Ray Fins are a true revolution in dive fin technology. You will appreciate why nature has evolved over the last few 100,000 years or so, and now you can too with the Oceanic Manta Ray Fins.

Thought I'd post some things I haven't been able to find on the net. This is a preliminary review after opening box regarding dimensions and the build quality. The overall length: (to back of foot pad) Spring strap sticks out another 3.25 inches, but it's flexible. Foot pocket is 4" wide and 3.25" tall. Solid, but flexible. Will "squish" to about 5" wide and 2" or so tall. Handles about 3/4 of my foot. Blade is 9" wide for nearly the whole length of 14 inches. I wear a men's size 9 US and with 6.5mm soft boots they fit like a glove and are more comfortable than any full foot fin I've worn. Barefoot won't work. . . but a 3mm soft should be OK. Spring strap has 3 settings on each side at about 1/2 inch each position. The rubber pull strap slides on the spring, so you could adjust one side only and the loop will still center. Nice touch. My fitting with the 6.5 mm boot has the spring strap on the tightest setting so plenty of room for a larger boot. Had the spring strap pulled up over my Achilles and was still comfortable. Spring is not too stiff. Easy to pull on. I got the black and yellow - I think they're gorgeous. Build quality and materials are excellent. This is not a "flimsy fin". the center channel is made of heavier material than I expected. It appears in will slightly flex for tooling around, but will probably flex more and really push the water when you turn on the coals. Hope it performs in the water as good as it is built, feels, and looks - but I think it will. Will add a pool review with full gear next week. So far I'm impressed. . .even at the price point.
